Der saudi-arabische Journalist Jamal Khashoggi war nach Istanbul gereist, um in seinem Konsulat Heiratspapiere abzuholen. Während seine Verlobte auf ihn wartete, wurde er ermordet. Am 2. Oktober 2018 wurde in der Türkei ein Mann umgebracht, der sich für eine gerechtere Gesellschaft eingesetzt und das saudi-arabische Königshaus kritisiert hatte. Der Dokumentarfilm von Bryan Fogel deckt die Hintergründe des skandalösen Mordes auf. "Der Dissident" vermittelt erschreckende Einblicke in ein internationales Komplott, dessen Skrupellosigkeit mit umfangreichem Video- und Tonmaterial belegt werden kann.
